Marketing

Trailer created by Sahar, and support of Melina

We chose to market a teaser trailer as a way of gripping the audience.

  • The fact that it is only 20 seconds long means that our audience are only able to pass judgement on minimal footage of our film.  We tried to keep in mind the fact that we didn't want to create a sense of fullness that some trailers fall into the trap of doing in the industry.  We agreed that some trailers that let you in on all of the best content, very commonly people are disappointed in the long run.  We wanted to market our film, if we were imaging theoretically being a big blockbuster, in a way that gives them information and pleasure in short bursts so that people hopefully find themselves desperate to come back for more.
  • We tried to fulfil this in our trailer by using clips of only 1/2 seconds and replace our soundtrack with not any major sound effects but a simple heart beat.  On every beat the imagery changes giving the audience only a brief insight into the protagonists world.  This created tension without overly shocking the audience.  We want them to spend their time anticipating something, desperate for something to happen, eventually experiencing the effect of watching a cliff hanger.
  • Instead, it ends with a shot of her eyes, letting the audience only slightly connect with her on a personal level.  By using this shot it puts questions in the audiences minds based on her image and her sad expression.  Who is she? What is her life like? Why is she so significant?
  • We also created our own slogan and way of engaging the audience into the themes and plot of the film.  By asking 'What would you do, if you were bless with a curse, would you start over?' it makes the audience question their own life experiences and their own mistakes/choices from the past.  It relates to the realism and depth of the issues involved in this film and helps gain an emotional response depending on the background and personality of the audience member watching.
  • The clips are chosen very carefully to give very subtle clues and symbolise key aspects of our film.
  • We used the establishing shot of the church to create enigma.  Potentially she has committed some form of sin? It makes the audience question how important the concept of religion is in our film.
  • We used the clip of Fred at the top of the stairs as a way of giving the audience a clue about the narrative.  By using this clip of a 'mysterious black figure' it automatically attracts the audience to the plot, and makes them ask why her shots are juxtaposing with this one of him? What relevance does he have to the film?
  • We used the clip of Nausicaa's tattoo to yet again give an insight into her life and personality.  When people see this tattoo the majority will know that it means 'infinity', hopefully leading to the question of why she has such a symbolic sign permanently on her skin.  Why is it significant enough to be shown in our trailer?

The following questionnaire is Written and Made by Sahar
The reason we decided to have a questionnaire is for us to have a better way of receiving feedback during the editing process of our opening sequence. I tried to keep the important questions as open ended as I could because as a group we were at a point that could really do with peoples feedback, as we spent so much time filming, we wanted to know that if the shots we have are enough to make the narrative clear so we were able to make it less stressful for ourselves and cut down on the scenes that did not need  or would not have made a difference to the narrative.

From the screenshot above we can see the feedback that we received from the questionnaire that I had created

One of the ways we marketed our film was through the software we have used throughout this whole journey of creating this media product and displaying our information. Using my Google account, I went onto Google drive and I created a survey when we were in the middle stages of our opening sequence, I did it at this point to show a form of marketing for our media film, but also to get feedback and a lot of it because it was nearing to the crucial time of getting everything perfect in our opening sequence. this helped a lot as we were given really helpful feedback.I tried to keep the questions not as detailed but also tried to make them as open as I could, in order to get our audience feedback valid and reliable. A copy of the questionnaire is on the research page of the blog- we decided to keep it on that specific page because it was a part of our research when trying to come up with the right questions for our audiences to answer.I had a look at a few other film questionnaires and this helped me when coming up with the right questions. I had to make sure that the questionnaire wasn't extremely long, so it does't lead to our audience getting bored and deciding that they don't want to finish the questionnaire-of course that wouldn't have helped in any way.
In conclusion, I used a really easy software to make the questionnaire- and the aim that we had when deciding to make it was successful because we did manage to get feedback.

HAMMER FILMS INFORMATION
Hammer Films is a film production company based in the UK.  It was founded in 1934, the company is best known for a series of Gothic "Hammer Horror" films made from the mid-1950s until the 70s.
Hammer has also produced sci-fi, thrillers, film noir and comedies. in later years hammer films started making television series. During its most successful years, Hammer dominated the horror film market, enjoying worldwide distribution and considerable financial success. This success was due, in part, to distribution partnerships with major United States studios, such as Warner Bros.

Hammer also produced eight other Dracula films between 1960 and 1974.

The huge box office success of The Curse of Frankenstein led to the inevitable desire for a sequel in The Revenge of Frankenstein.
Hammer has produced the feature films Let Me In (2010), The Resident (2011), and The Woman In Black (2012). – which have all been sucCessful.

We couldn't use hammer as they are productions company but if they were distributors then they would have been perfect
